Beauty influencer and entrepreneur Laura Ikeji has voiced her support for Nollywood actress Annie Idibia, who is married to the legendary singer 2baba. Over the weekend, Annie has been the center of attention due to her problematic behavior on the popular African reality show, Young Famous and African. In her Instagram story, Laura urged anyone who considers themselves a friend of Annie and recognizes her as a wonderful person not to join strangers in criticizing her. She emphasized that those who have experienced Annie’s kindness should stand up for her when negative comments are made, and if they choose not to defend her, they should remain silent and side with outsiders.
Laura, who has also participated in reality shows, highlighted how these programs can distort one’s perspective, encouraging people to show Annie love and keep a positive atmosphere around her. “If you’re a friend of Annie and know her to be a great person, please do not align yourself with those who have never met her to bring her down. If she has shown you kindness, stand up for her when others speak poorly of her, and if you don't want to defend her, then stay silent, and don’t participate in the negativity. Reality shows can play with your mind. So if you’ve known her before the show, continue to extend your love. Let those who have only seen her on the show form their own opinions, but you, who know her personally, keep that positive energy. Avoid joining in the harsh discussions.”
“You see me? Although I might recognize that you’re in the wrong, I would never publicly undermine you in front of our adversaries. My friendship isn’t a prerequisite. That’s why some believe I place too much value on friendship. I’m indifferent about friendship, but because I know and appreciate you, I will never criticize you when you’re struggling, regardless of how foolish I might seem.”
On the show, Annie candidly shared her emotional experience of losing twins. While talking with a co-star, she disclosed that she had a miscarriage with twins a year prior. Calling 2024 a particularly challenging year, she mentioned that this was why she had been less present on the show and at events.
Additionally, Mrs. Idibia stirred discussions on social media due to her unusual conduct. In a segment, she was seen video calling her husband, the iconic singer 2baba, expressing her wish to return home. She pleaded with him to let her come back, highlighting the deteriorating relationship with her co-reality star, Zaria Hassan.
Last year, while preparing to celebrate her 40th birthday, Annie raised concerns after posting a video where she enthusiastically counted down to her milestone. In the footage, the wife of 2baba was seen scratching her body while expressing her excitement about reaching the fourth decade. Many viewers found the video troubling, suspecting she might be under the influence of drugs.
It’s worth noting that in 2022, Annie’s brother, Wisdom Macaulay, alleged that she displays violent tendencies and acts erratically when angry. He further claimed that she introduced him to drugs, stating that she struggles with addiction.
